Changes at CCCB
The port management company, bremenports, has extended the passenger walkway docking platform by about 40 metres to the south. This means that it is now possible to handle three 200-metre cruise vessels simultaneously. During CCCB's first operative years, emphasis was placed on technical improvements at the terminal; this year we have been able to shift this focus to passengers' well-being and aesthetic aspects. CCCB's corporate identity has also undergone a change. On all brochures, on our Website and at our convention stands, the cruise terminal is now represented by the new logo of a stylish cruise vessel on a blue wave. Following the success of the trial "Convenience Shop" on the first floor of the terminal, it will now continue to do business at the same location, where its wide selection of newspapers and convenience articles have proven popular with both passengers and crew members. A new service offered this year is the rental of bicycles by a local dealer. The Internet café is also becoming more and more popular, especially with crew members, who are glad to make use of the opportunity to send messages home.
This autumn, the German Maritime Museum is going to put at our disposal a photo gallery of famous personalities who sailed from the Columbus Quay in the twentieth century. At the close of the special exhibition on the 150-year history of the North German Lloyd shipping line, some of the exhibits will be handed over for display at the terminal as from 2008.
Successful Convention
A big success this year was the joint presentation of CCCB and BIS Bremerhaven at the Seatrade Europe Convention in Hamburg. During a press conference at the shared stand, Managing Director, Veit R. Hürdler,
made an official announcement of the vessels expected in 2008. The number of visitors at the stand
was impressive evidence of the growing interest in Bremerhaven as a cruise location.

Cruise Location Bremerhaven
In 1998, the old Columbusbahnhof in Bremerhaven handled 45 sailings with a total of about 38,000 passengers. When the new Columbus Cruise Center went into operation in 2003, successful marketing activities meant that we were able to record 63 sailings. On the occasion of the Seatrade Europe Convention in Hamburg from 25 to 27 September this year, CCCB presented the provisional schedule for 2008, with 101 vessel calls and more than 130,000 passengers expected. This is an impressive develop-ment which shows clearly that it was a good decision to invest heavily in Bremerhaven as a cruise location. As well as the modern and efficient high-capacity facilities, cruise lines and travel agents appreciate more and more the favourable geographic position offered by Bremerhaven. Easy access to the open sea and good inland connections make CCCB an attractive terminal for passengers joining or leaving a cruise vessel, but also as a starting point for excursions. The general positive trend in the cruise industry has also contributed to Bremerhaven's success. The fjords of Norway, the British Isles and the Baltic are the most popular destinations for vessels leaving in summer from Bremerhaven. In the search for new products there is now a tendency to combine other destinations with the traditional Baltic ports. Amsterdam, London, Le Havre, Cork or Edinburgh are just some examples of the interesting places which can now be reached from Bremerhaven. Parallel with this development, Bremerhaven and the region around it have also become even more attractive and interesting in recent years. In Bremerhaven, the German Emigration Center, the impressive new ATLANTIC Hotel SAIL City, and the "Havenwelten" with the planned Mediterraneo or the Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8° Ost are good examples of this trend, while the World Cultural Heritage Site of Bremen will continue to ensure increasing interest and importance within the new world of cruise shipping.
New attraction in Bremerhaven
The Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8° Ost
Fascinating journey through the world of weather
Everybody is talking about weather. However, which factors influence the weather? From spring 2009 onwards the Klimahaus® Bremerhaven 8°Ost will give scientific well-founded and fascinating answers. For the first time a leisure time facility in Germany will give access to this highly-active scientific topic by illustrating it on a high level of quality, but in an easily understandable way. One of the main attractions of the Klimahaus® is a trip around the world from and to Bremerhaven, always along the 8th degree of longitude. Over 5,000 square metres, you will become a world traveller: strolling through a variety of different climes and meeting people whose everyday life is heavily influenced by the prevailing climate. You will experience extreme temperatures and encounter strange animals and plants. Interactive exhibits will help you to literally grasp even complex interrelations of the various factors of the world’s climate.
